The Promise Society: A New Way to Support CMT Research

Aug 4, 2026 | CMTRF Foundation News

There are moments when the future you’ve been fighting for finally comes into view. For the CMT Research Foundation, this is one of those moments.

Because of our community, we are closer than ever to changing what it means to live with CMT. The research we’re funding right now, from partnerships with leading pharmaceutical companies to groundbreaking gene therapy work, is opening a path toward treatments that once felt out of reach.

We’re honored to introduce The Promise Society: a community of supporters who have committed to making sure this work continues until the promise we’ve made to families affected by CMT becomes reality.

What is a planned gift?

A planned gift is a promise you make today to help build a future without CMT. Unlike a traditional donation, most planned gifts don’t ask you to give anything right now. Instead, you include CMTRF in your future plans, so you can continue to care for the people you love while making sure the search for treatments and cures carries on for generations to come.

Planned giving isn’t just for the wealthy. Gifts of every size have the power to leave a lasting impact.

Common ways to make a planned gift include:

  • Including CMTRF in your will or living trust
  • Naming CMTRF as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy
  • Creating a charitable remainder trust
  • Giving appreciated securities

There’s no minimum gift amount, no immediate financial commitment, and your plans stay entirely in your control. You can change them at any time.

Why we’re calling it a promise

The Promise Society isn’t about the size of a gift. It’s a shared commitment to seeing this mission through, a promise that the discoveries we’re fighting for today will be there for the patients and families who need them tomorrow.

Joining costs nothing today and doesn’t change how you live or give. It simply lets us know that ending CMT is part of the legacy you want to leave behind.

How to join

If you’ve already included CMTRF in your estate plans, we would be honored to know. If you’re considering it, or simply have questions, we’d love to talk, no obligation, no pressure, just a conversation.

You can share your intentions by filling out the short form at cmtrf.org/planned-giving, or by reaching out directly to Anna Combes, CFRE, Vice President of Philanthropy, at [email protected] or 504-669-6984.

Members of The Promise Society receive a Promise Society pin as a token of our gratitude.

Together, we made a promise to the CMT community. Together, we’re going to keep it.
