The 2026 Global CMT Research Convention

Dates: September 24 to 26, 2026  

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts  

Host Hotel: The Royal Sonesta Boston, 40 Edwin H Land Blvd, Cambridge, MA 02142 

Whether you’re joining for the scientific program (Thursday and Friday) or the patient-focused day (Saturday), here is what you need to know to plan your trip. 

Getting to Boston 

The closest airport is Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), about 3 miles from the hotel. Estimates for the drive range from roughly 13 to 15 minutes depending on traffic, though Boston traffic can be unpredictable, especially during rush hour, so it is worth building in extra time. 

Options for getting from the airport to the hotel: 

  • Taxi or rideshare (Uber/Lyft): The most direct option, typically a 13 to 15 minute ride. 
  • Public transit: The MBTA Silver Line connects Logan Airport to South Station, where you can transfer to other lines; this takes longer than a direct ride but is a budget-friendly option. 
  • Hotel shuttle: The Royal Sonesta Boston does not offer a dedicated airport shuttle, so plan on a taxi, rideshare, or transit for the airport leg of your trip. 

The Hotel: The Royal Sonesta Boston 

The Royal Sonesta Boston sits on the Charles River in East Cambridge, with views of the Boston skyline. A few practical details: 

  • Parking: Attached parking garage with valet and self-park options. 
  • Amenities: Indoor pool, 24-hour fitness center, on-site dining, and a coffee shop (Studio) for grab-and-go mornings. 
  • Local shuttle: The hotel runs a courtesy shuttle to MIT and Kendall Square on weekdays (departures around 7:00, 7:30, 8:15, and 8:45 AM, with return pickups in the afternoon). Schedules can shift, so confirm current times with the front desk when you check in, if you’re interested.

Getting Around Once You’re There 

  • On foot: The hotel is directly across the street from CambridgeSide (shopping and restaurants) and a short walk from the Museum of Science. 
  • Kendall Square / MIT: About a 10 to 20 minute walk, depending on the source and your pace. 
  • Public transit (the T): The Lechmere Green Line stop is about a 3 to 10 minute walk away; the Kendall/MIT Red Line stop is roughly a 15 to 17 minute walk. Both connect easily into downtown Boston, Harvard Square, and beyond. 
  • Rideshare: Readily available throughout Cambridge and Boston. 

While You’re in Town 

If you have extra time before or after the convention, the hotel’s location puts a lot within easy reach: 

  • Museum of Science: A very short walk from the hotel. 
  • MIT and Harvard University: Both a short ride or walk away. 
  • Faneuil Hall Marketplace, TD Garden, and the Freedom Trail: All within a couple of miles, easily reached by T or rideshare. 
  • Charles River Esplanade: Good for a run or a walk, right behind the hotel. 

Weather to Expect 

Late September in Boston/Cambridge is typically early fall: mild days, cooler evenings, and a real chance of rain. Layers and a light jacket are a safe bet. 

The Convention Itself 

  • Thursday, Sept 24 & Friday, Sept 25: Scientific programming for researchers, clinicians, industry, and investors (patients welcome). 
  • Saturday, Sept 26: Patient- and family-focused day, including a Clinical Trial Fair (scientists welcome).
