When many people think of the word “race” they imagine a 5k, 10k and even a half-marathon. But, what about a new type of run that directly benefits patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and covers no distance at all—A Zero-K Run.

A Zero-K Run is exactly what it sounds like—0 kilometers.

On Saturday, July 13, people of all ages gathered at the Forgotten Star Brewery in Fridley, MN, for a race like no other.

Gary Berg, the Berg family and the team from G. L. Berg & Associates put on the inaugural Zero-K Run to benefit the CMT Research Foundation and raise awareness of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. With over 200 registered participants, the day was full of fun, food, laughter, great music and great camaraderie.

“Runners” came out and brought their lawn chairs and got the full race experience. The starter horn went off, and those very “runners” stood up from their chairs…and immediately sat back down. They received race packets, running bibs, finisher medals and 0.0 stickers that they can proudly display on the back window of their vehicles.

The event not only raised awareness for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which affects more than 3 million people worldwide, including members of the Berg family, but it also raised funds for CMTRF that will go directly towards funding research projects to find a cure for CMT.
