WEBINAR: Gene Therapies Demystified, Understanding the Fundamentals for CMT

Apr 16, 2026 | CMT Research Updates, Foundation News

One of the most rapidly expanding frontiers in Charcot-Marie-Tooth research is also one of the most challenging to keep pace with. Now, the CMT Research Foundation is making it accessible to everyone.

On May 7th at 7 PM EST, the CMTRF will launch Gene Therapies Demystified, a three-part webinar series designed to bring the science and process of gene therapy out of the lab and into plain language. Whether you’re a patient with CMT trying to understand the direction of future research, a scientist looking to engage with how gene therapies can help people with CMT, or a clinician keeping up with a rapidly evolving field, this series was built with you in mind.

The first session, Understanding the Fundamentals, sets the foundation. Dr. Meghan Drummond, VP of Research and Drug Development at the CMT Research Foundation, will walk attendees through the core concepts behind gene therapy: how it works at a biological level, why CMT is a compelling target for this approach, and what the current science suggests about its potential as a treatment.

Sessions two and three will build on this foundation, diving deeper into specific approaches and the challenges being explored for CMT and the path from research to clinical reality.

Registering for session one is the best way to make sure you’re prepared for the full journey. Mark your calendar for May 7th, share this with your community, and come with your questions — the goal of this series is to make the science of gene therapy something everyone in the CMT world can engage with confidently.
